STREET-SMARTS – THE 411

This is a knowledge-based course. Personal safety threats against an individual’s wellbeing may occur at any time… during business hours, as well as off-work hours. The Street-Smarts 411 education will better prepare individuals to avoid being victimized.
This course covers:

1. THE MIND OF THE PREDATOR
― Details the “six stages of crime” predators use to commit violence/crime ―

All predators/offenders go through a process to commit crime/violence. The more seasoned the predator, the more these stages become second-nature to them. By knowing these steps, students will gain knowledge to avoid the traps planned out to victimize.

2. DAILY RISK FACTORS DANGERS
― Identifies personal safety high risk-factors that contribute to personal violence and victimization –

Details on the activities people do every day that are risk factors putting them in personal danger or in threatening situations will be taught. By knowing these risk factors, students will learn how to change one’s lifestyle so not to fall into the traps/schemes of the predator.

3. HOW PREDATORS TARGET (Potential) VICTIMS
― Outlines what predators look for when targeting a potential victim ―

Things like hairstyle, talking on mobile phones, being visibly emotional/intoxicated/angry in public, or being alone in a fringe area, will all shout out to the predator that this person will be their next victim. However, by applying effective inside information taught in this module, the predator will label you as someone to avoid.

4. VOICE WEAPONRY
Learning how to use your voice to fight back, to discourage and intimate predators is more successful than anyone can imagine. Attendees will learn how to stop the victimization quickly by applying the use of voice weaponry to protect themselves.

5. EMPOWERMENT SURVIVAL SAFETY TIPS
Details empowerment tips to outsmart predators in such areas as:
• basic street-sense tips that can be applied anywhere, during leisure activities or when using public transportation,
ATMs, public facilities, or parking lots, etc.

DEFENSE! SMART SELF DEFENSE

The DEFENSE! SMART SELF-DEFENSE program consists of two offerings:

DEFENSE EMPOWERMENT: Self Defense Basics
WEAPONS DEFENSE: Defending Against Weapons

DEFENSE EMPOWERMENT: Self-Defense Basics Workshop

Self-defense is the act of defending oneself once an attack is made. Attacks can come against anyone at any time (e.g. an agent showing a home on sale, being alone in a parking garage/lot, or using stairwells).

This is not your grandparents self-defense or a “padded man” self-defense course. This course teaches real hands-on defenses against the most common and dangerous holds used by predators to control, victimize, and to threaten our lives. Students will be taught how to remove themselves from real life clutches, grabs, and other dangerous holds/attacks such as:

Bear-hugs and head-locks
Bear-hugs and head-locks are different tactics an attacker may use to subdue their victim from the front, or from
   the back.
Grabs/Grips:
To restrict a person, an attacker may grip/grab a victim’s wrists, hands, clothes, or hair. Freeing oneself doesn’t take    power or strength, but application of practical, effective techniques.
Neck Chokes:
Chokes are one of the most deadliest and most common attacks made. The first thing many people do when an    attacker chokes them, is struggle with the attacker‘s hands in an effort to free themselves. This technique should never    be used.
Floor/Ground/On-the-Back Attacks
Some attacks may result in the victim falling on the floor/ground. Employing the correct leg technique will empower
the victim the ability to escape.

To further enhance their self-defense applications, students will also be taught:
Enhancing One’s Awareness Of Their Surroundings:
Being aware of one’s surroundings is the first key to being able to control any situation encountered. Students will be    taught in alertness and to know what to look for, in both familiar and unfamiliar environments. Action versus reaction    training is taught.
Application To Counterattacks:
Basics in martial arts offensive techniques will be demonstrated; students are taught how to use them once released    from an attacker’s hold, and to ensure their escape.

TAKE CHARGE! WIN WITHOUT FIGHTING

Learn to get out of threatening/escalating situations without getting into physical altercations! This is known as the art of “winning without fighting” … also known by the most popular saying “the art of fighting without fighting”! This course teaches techniques to outsmart the “bad guy” and to walk away without it escalating to physical altercations/fights …. no matter how tough or big the other person may be.

Students will learn:
    • The origin of the “Winning without fighting” philosophy
    • No-fight strategies and techniques
    • Applying the philosophy as a lifestyle
    • How to avoid being targeted to be victimized

You’ll be introduced on how to discern situations in the following ways:
1) Learning to read a person’s body language: The body undergoes certain physiological changes when the body gets ready to attack or defend
2) Recognizing mannerisms: Though mannerisms are subtle, they are recognizable to an observer, either consciously or unconsciously on what the person is planning to do.
3) Don’t focus on their words: Their own body will tell you they are about to attack -- even if their words are deceptively calm and normal.
